Dear William,
I would like to make sure that you understand what I proposed in my last conversation with you so that there is no confusion.
Firstly, I think you deserve to be paid for this upcoming job and for the many other investments you've made in the past year. I think you are a very special musician who deserves to be heard.
You have been a great asset to me and my career and you've given me chances to build a future relationship that most would jump at if they could. I insist that you are recompensed as fairly as possible for your incredibly generous, genuine and relentless investment of time and effort during our time working together in the past year.
You are a very important person, a great musician and a treasure to hear. You have the ability to make a deep impression on all who encounter your talent. I am lucky to have co-worked with you.
As little compensation as money can offer in comparison to the value of the efforts you have made, I hope that this will at the least make you aware of the underlying gratitude that I have for you and your work and that you will understand me clearly as your fan and friend.
I cannot invite you to play with me at this next performance because I really need this time to myself. In honesty, I would prefer that you don't come for the opening as it would make me deeply uncomfortable.
I will be sending you a check today by regular mail. I invite to write me by email of anything that is my concern. I also ask that in the future you deign to contact my associates concerning me unless they contact you first in order to avoid any further confusion.
madeleine
